Sheffield Comedy Venues
Sheffield’s comedy scene doesn’t try to be flashy, and that’s exactly why it works. It’s a mix of cosy pubs, pop-up nights in unexpected places, and the occasional big-name show in a proper theatre. You’ve got everything from free open mics to full-blown tour stops, and the crowds? Always up for a laugh.
Whether you're after something casual with a pint or planning a full night out, here’s a guide to where the city gets its laughs.
OEC (Owlerton Events Centre)
Located at Penistone Rd, Sheffield S6 2DE, near Owlerton Stadium.
Classy-looking venue that runs comedy drag lunches, boozy bingo, and fringe-style stand-up events. More of a planned night than a random drop-in, but shows feel well-curated and fun.
Enjoy a little more space at the OEC, a bit more structure, and occasionally some sequins if it’s drag bingo season.

The Foundry
Located at Victoria Hall, Norfolk St, Sheffield S1 2JB.
A proper staple for comedy in Sheffield, The Foundry hosts shows ranging from local talent nights to touring names (Josie Long, Cally Beaton, James Acaster, Mark Watson - yes, those folks have appeared here).
It’s part-Uni space, part-gig hub, with a decent size and a crowd that’s keen. Expect playfully themed shows like The Dark Room, John Robertson’s bizarre videogame-comedy mash-up that once went viral.
The Steamworks
Located at 109-111 Randall St, Highfield, Sheffield S2 4SJ.
Looks like a pub, delivers like a mid-size club. The Steamworks is home to The Leadmill Comedy Club nights, with acts like Neil Delamere, Mark Watson, and Gary Delaney appearing regularly.
The venue sits comfortably in the city centre and hosts events most weekends. Comedy paired with pints, right in the middle of town. No frills, just a proper night out.
Yorkshireman
Located at 10 Arundel Gate, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield S1 2PP.
The Yorkshireman is a proper rock–bar basement pub right opposite O₂ Academy, and yes, they host free comedy open-mic nights that draw local acts and up‑and‑comers.
The night goes under the name Yorkshireman Comedy Club, a mix of enthusiastic amateurs and fresh stand-up faces, all welcome, no tickets needed. Sign-up starts around 7 pm, and even if the line-up’s new to you, the room’s energy isn’t.
New Barrack Tavern
Located at 601 Penistone Rd, Hillsborough, Sheffield S6 2GA.
Home to Sheffield Comedy Club by Funhouse, this pub holds monthly comedy nights (usually on the first Sunday) and sometimes all-day summer events in the beer garden.
Big names like Sarah Millican, Rhod Gilbert and Gary Delaney have dropped by when passing through. Friendly locals, real ale, and solid laughs, even when the line-up is unknown.
Toolmakers Brewery
Located at 6-8 Botsford St, Sheffield S3 9PF.
Toolmakers runs Sheffield’s longest-running free comedy night. Always on a Saturday, always free, and definitely worth turning up to see what’s going on.
Small brewery, friendly crowd, and a chance to catch fresh acts in a relaxed, down-to-earth setting.
SADACCA
Located at 48 Wicker, Sheffield S3 8JB.
Running community-oriented events like Sheff Comedy Jam and thematic gigs (“Don’t Be a Menace to South Yorkshire”), SADACCA brings inclusive, daytime comedy shows often with local names and community spirit. Something different to a late-night gig.
CADS at Arley Street
Located at Cuthbert House, Arley St, Highfield, Sheffield S2 4QP.
Hosts Carbonara for Nine: Space! and similar indie comedy shows (themes change; the current one’s space-based).
Very niche, very fun, if you like weird concepts with bold newer acts. It’s small, experimental, and feels like it was booked by someone trying to make you smile in a unique way.
Last Laugh Comedy Club
Located at Barker's Pool, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield S1 2JA.
This one’s a proper institution. Last Laugh has been at Sheffield City Hall for over 16 years, with a compere and three comedians per show.
Professional, reliable, and with big acts and fans who know to book early. Fridays and Saturdays are the usual nights, great if you want something organised and polished without sacrificing atmosphere.
Steel City Comedy Club
Located at 44 Campo Ln, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield S1 2DE.
While not a fixed pub, Steel City Comedy Club brings touring names into Sheffield under the banner of “big nights in the big city”. Expect adverts that say “Steel City Comedy Presents…” and events in City Hall or similar venues, perfect for catching nationally-known stand-up.
Sheffield City Hall
Located at Barker's Pool, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield S1 2JA.
The Hall itself hosts both Last Laugh Comedy and large touring shows. Speakers like Peter Kay, Eddie Izzard, Jack Whitehall, Michael McIntyre and others have all done huge nights here (McIntyre filled over 12,000 seats once at the Arena next door).
If you want big scale, think Sheffield City Hall for neat stage production and seating that doesn’t require leaning.
Motorpoint Arena (FlyDSA Arena)
Located at 45 Broughton Ln, Sheffield S9 2DF.
This is Sheffield’s arena-size venue and has hosted the biggest names: Russell Brand, Lee Evans, Jack Whitehall, Eddie Izzard, and Michael McIntyre (with record attendance).
Not weekly gigs by any means, but when those names come to town, they fill this place. Think stadium-level laughter.
Shakespeare's
Located at 146-148 Gibraltar St, Sheffield S3 8UB.
A local pub/venue that occasionally runs comedy nights, open-mics or cosy showcases. It’s relaxed, friendly, and the kind of place where comedy creeps in after quiz night.
Community-led, welcoming, and perfect for local gigs that feel like inside jokes.
